GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A long season of ups and downs has led the Greenfield High School boys basketball team to the verge of a championship.

The Green Wave takes on the Drury Blue Devils in the PVIAC Western Massachusetts Boys Class C title game Tuesday. The game will be played at Chicopee Comprehensive High School at 5:00. The game can be heard on Bear Country 95.3 and streaming at bear953.com.

The seeds have held in this tournament, with Drury the top-seed and the Green Wave seeded second. Drury has dominated in their two tournament games so far, defeating Renaissance in the quarterfinals, 75-47, and then blowing past Palmer in the semifinal round, 76-43.

Greenfield had a relatively easy time in their quarterfinal round game with Lenox, defeating the Millionaires, 57-39.  But the Wave needed a second-half comeback to defeat Ware in the semifinals, 62-57.

Drury won the regular-season matchup on December 12, 83-64 in North Adams. Jorge Bond went off for 30 points to lead the Blue Devils to the win. Grayson Thomas had 31 for the Wave, which was done in by a very poor start. Greenfield trailed 22-7 at the end of one quarter and was down 47-18 at halftime.

Seedings for the upcoming MIAA State Basketball Tournament will be revealed on Saturday afternoon.
