GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — On this 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on America, the Greenfield Fire Department hosted a ceremony of remembrance at the fire station at 41 Main Street.

Fire Chief Robert Strahan addressed a small gathering of residents and GFD members. Strahan said September 11 this year was in some ways was very reminiscent of September 11, 2001.

“24 years ago today was not unlike today,” said Strahan. “Blue skies, clear, warm day. Nobody realized that the world, the City of New York, the country, would change forever.”

Strahan noted the loss of lives on that day, and the days the followed, and said it remains important, even in the passage of time, to remember that day and those who never lived to see another day.

“We will never forget,” said Strahan. “We will always honor not only our firefighters and our police officers, and EMS workers who gave the ultimate sacrifice, but we gather to remember everyone who lost their life that day. It’s truly a humble day. We need to take time out of this crazy world that we live in now to remember that we are one country, we are one world, and we want nothing more than peace and prosperity.”
