WARWICK, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Warwick School Committee has made a statement outlining why they do not support Warwick joining the proposed six-town regional “super” district.

The Committee voted 4 to 1 at their October 8th meeting against the agreement, saying they see “no advantage, financial or otherwise” to join the district and in fact, they believe joining the district could put what makes the Warwick Community School, WCS, successful, at risk.

They gave three main reasons the School Committee is against joining the “super” district; the carefully selected curriculum at WCS would not be protected, loss of autonomy would mean more difficulty to advocate for Warwick students, students would have a longer bus ride.

The Committee also gave three reasons to have confidence in the WCS; the tuition agreements in place with area high schools give their students options, the WCS has worked hard to secure over half a million dollars in grant funding since 2023, the enrollment at WCS has grown from 27 last year to 48 this year demonstrating growth and interest in the local school.
